Wayne was born October 26, 1966, in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Janice Sue Edwards Walrath and Rev. Warren Kelly Walrath. He grew up in Evansville, Indiana, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science and a Minor in Business from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
While attending IU, Wayne, a constant explorer, took a semester off from his studies and traveled to Alaska to work on a fishing boat for a season. A love for the ocean stayed with him throughout his life. Also, while at IU, he was offered the opportunity to work in Munich, Germany for FAW-ULM, Research Institute for Applied Knowledge Processing. After graduating, he continued working in Munich for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in Mac software development.
Upon returning to the States, he resided in Connecticut before finding his perfect home in The Catskill Mountains in the bucolic Phoenicia, NY in 2001. Wayne quickly became known as “Computer Wayne” and graciously provided technical assistance to many in the community. In 2007 he married, Christa Trinler; the two had originally met while students at Indiana University.
He had his own successful consulting and product development company, Acme Technologies, for 10 years before working as a Senior Web Developer with Evolving Media Network/Moonfarmer, and then as a Senior Web Engineer with 10UP.
Wayne’s scientific mind was utilized in the kitchen as well. He developed hot sauces (because, according to Wayne, EVERYTHING is better with hot sauce), fermented pickles, baked bread, and made his much sought-after toffee for his friends and neighbors.
Wayne enjoyed the mountains and the wildlife that regularly walked through his property. He also loved researching ANYTHING; spending time on the water; woodworking; and listening to his favorite musicians Steely Dan, Frank Zappa, Bruce Springsteen, and John Mellencamp. His radio was always tuned to Public Radio, and a purring cat was never far away.
Wayne passed away in his sleep on June 16, 2024, while on a camping trip in Michigan with his adored Corgi, Buster.
Wayne is survived by his father, Warren Walrath; step-father, Gary Titzer; sister, Debbie Walrath; his beloved nieces and nephews, Mariah Walrath, Cameron Walrath, Phoenix Andrick, Psalm Walrath, and Sequoyah Walrath; his former wife of 17 years, Christa Trinler; and his dog Buster.
A Celebration of Life will be planned at a future date in both Evansville, IN, and Phoenicia, NY. Memorial contributions in Wayne’s honor may be made to Heart of the Catskills Humane Society, www.heartofthecatskills.org.
