Susan grew up in Joplin, Missouri. She had been entranced with the lights of Times Square during a family trip up the East Coast, and decided then to one day return to New York City, which she did after college. Except for a year hitch-hiking around Europe, she lived in Greenwich Village for 32 years. She loved the Village. It was the place she always called home.
In the 1970s Susan enrolled at Columbia University where she earned a BS in Nursing and an MS in Midwifery. She worked at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital for many years. Patients loved her, writing letters praising and thanking her for her kindness and care. In the mid-1980s, Susan bought a small home on Ohayo Mountain Road in Glenford, NY, which she retired to in 2000.
Susan was a true animal-lover. A friend gave Susan her first first dog after finding it in the rain during the Italian Street Festival, and her second one was rescued from a ride on the A-train. Her last dog was Chester Vincent.
Susan is survived by her sister and many cousins. She was predeceased by her parents and brother. Her Service was held at the Woodstock Reformed Church. Graveside services and burial will be at the family cemetery in Stark City, Missouri. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Ulster County SPCA.
