Shirley Margaret Driver Marx

Shirley Margaret Driver Marx, 98, of New Paltz, passed away on March 8, 2022.

Shirley was born on July 19, 1923, to James Harvey Driver & Hattie Clayton in Jackson, Tennessee. After graduating from high school, Shirley went on to study at the Harris School of Advertising Art in Nashville, Tennessee. She worked as an art director for a women’s department store in Nashville before moving to New York City where she worked at Jay Thorpe, Simplicity Patterns and as an instructor of fashion illustration at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Shirley met William Marx, and they were married on October 23, 1954. They had one child, Christopher Marx.  Soon after they relocated to New Paltz, NY. After moving to New Paltz in 1966, Shirley worked as free-lance commercial artist. 

Shirley was pre-deceased by her husband of 62 years, William (Bill) Marx. Her brother, James Driver; and sister-in-law, Gertrude Spicer.  She is survived by her son Christopher and his wife Sandra, two grandchildren: Emily and C.J. Marx, nieces and nephews, and a lot of wonderful friends.
