Mary E. Myers (Hillje), 92, of New Paltz, formerly of Saugerties, passed away on February 15, 2023 at Taconic Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Highland.
Born June 24, 1930 in Kingston, she was the daughter of the late August and Ellen Bauer Hillje. She married Harvey R. Myers on May 1, 1954. He predeceased her on April 2, 2013. Until her retirement, Mary was employed by Ferroxcube in Saugerties where she worked in manufacturing for Phillips Electronics. She was a member of the Saugerties Senior Citizens Club #2 and the Atonement Lutheran Church. Mary and Harvey enjoyed camping with family and friends at North Lake Campground and traveling with M&M Tours. They looked forward to their yearly trips to Pocono Raceway for NASCAR races. Her daughter Linda and grandson Austin will be sure to keep that tradition alive. She was also an avid NY Yankee fan and later in life looked forward to her Sunday family dinners prepared by Chef Al.
Mary is survived by her daughter Linda Whitaker of Essex Junction, VT.; daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Al Alexsa of New Paltz; grandchildren Kristen (Chuck) Vella, Heather Alexsa, Austin (Amanda) Whitaker and Megan (Joe) Thomas; great-grandchildren William and Kate Vella, Alexis and Alyza Whitaker and Ryleigh Thomas; and several nieces and nephews, including Cindy Rice, Elaine Sager and Ronald Myers, whom she always had a special place in her heart for. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son-in-law Darell Whitaker and brothers John, Walter and Edward Hillje.
Per Mary’s request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. A private interment will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Saugerties. Arrangements are under the direction of Buono Funeral Service, Inc. Family suggests donations in her memory be made to the New Paltz Rescue Squad. They would like to thank the nursing staff at Taconic at Ulster (especially Nick) and Hudson Valley Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of Mary.
