Katherine Anderson, age 83, of Woodstock, NY, passed away peacefully at home on July 15, 2024. She was born on January 12, 1941, in Englewood, NJ, to John S. McNamara and Anne V. McNamara of Tenafly, NJ. Katherine attended St. Cecilia High School in Tenafly, NJ.
Katherine was a devoted wife to Walter J. Anderson, who passed away in July 2016, a loving mother to Jeffrey and Timothy Anderson, a caring sister to Jane Jennings (who passed away in 2012) and John McNamara She was also a cherished friend to countless people in the Town of Woodstock.
She dedicated her life to her family, friends, and the Woodstock community. As a mother, she prioritized staying home to raise her sons, Timothy and Jeffrey, during their early years. Katherine met her husband Walter at the New Jersey Bell telephone company. After their marriage in 1970, they moved to Woodstock, NY, where they bought land, built a home, and started their family. Both Kathy and Walter were deeply involved in their sons’ activities, volunteering for the Woodstock PTA, Little League, soccer, Cub Scouts, and Boy Scouts. Their dedication to the community was recognized with the Jenkins Award and the Alf Evers Award for selfless volunteering.
Katherine also worked for the Town of Woodstock, serving as a secretary for Town Supervisors John LaValle (1980-1987), Brian Hollander (1988-1991), and John Mower (1992-1993). She later became Town Clerk, where she served with distinction from 1993-2005 when she retired. Additionally, she was an active volunteer with the Historical Society of Woodstock.
Katherine was deeply committed to her church. She began her spiritual journey with St. John’s Church, where she was active in the folk group for Mass and volunteered for numerous church events. Later, she attended First Baptist Church in Kingston, NY, continuing her volunteer work and worship. Katherine also enjoyed baking cookies by the dozens, providing sweet treats for her family, co-workers and friends.
Katherine is survived by her sons, Jeffrey and Timothy Anderson, and her brother, John McNamara of Cresskill, NJ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, and her sister, Jane.
A memorial service is scheduled for August 24, 2024, at 4 PM at the Woodstock Firehouse in Woodstock, NY.
