John J. Wey, 86, of Harwinton, CT, peacefully passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Waterbury Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Pearl (Phelps) Wey for 59 years.
John was born November 17, 1938, in Cleveland, OH, the son of the late Oscar and Elsie (Lorman) Wey. He grew up in Saugerties, NY before settling down in CT. John was an Engineer by trade, retiring from the Torrington Company as a Superintendent and was a proud member of their Foreman’s Club. He was an avid Yankee and NASCAR fan, enjoyed attending antique car shows and loved anything “Ford” related. If John wasn’t outside working in his yard, you could find him tinkering inside his house. He enjoyed attending his grandsons’ sporting events and was one of their biggest fans. John was a long-standing member of the Harwinton Volunteer Ambulance Association and a prior Eucharistic Minister.
In addition to his wife Pearl, he is survived by his three children; Barbara Siani (Kevin) of Plainville, CT, Edward Wey of Waxhaw, NC and Theresa Ponte (William) of Harwinton, CT; one brother, Edward Wey (Ingrid) of Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, with the cortege leaving at 10:15 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to St. Patrick Church, 50 Church St., Collinsville, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery, Torrington, CT. Relatives and friends are welcome to gather at Cook Funeral Home on Tuesday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and attend Mass and burial.
