Joan Mary Diamond
August 11, 1932 – July 30, 2023
Joan Mary Diamond passed away peacefully on July 30, 2023 at The Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights, IL surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Queens, New York to the late Edward Patrick and Amelia Anna Moran.
Joan began her career at The New York Telephone Company, first as an Operator until her promotion to Junior Assistant of Operations. It was at the telephone company where she met her husband, Joseph L. Diamond, Jr. in 1953. They were married in the fall of 1956 and settled in Port Ewen, New York where they raised their two children, Joseph and Leslie. Joan was a licensed real estate broker in the Hudson Valley area for over 40 years before relocating to Arlington Heights, IL.
Joan is survived by her son, Dr. Joseph Edward Diamond (Rebecca), Associate Professor of Anthropology, SUNY New Paltz; daughter, Leslie Diamond Cook (fiancé Michael Albrecht) of Arlington Heights, IL; granddaughter, Natasha Diamond VanScoyoc (Jack), her sister Linda Semilof (the late Duke) and Robert Moran (Helene), as well as many dear nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Joseph L. Diamond; sisters Lillian Hubbell (Glen) and Gail Carter and brother, Edward Moran (Cathy).
Joan loved the holidays, baking, decorating, shopping, history and archeology, animals, theatre, music, the beach and doing laundry! She especially enjoyed watching Pride & Prejudice and old movies with Natasha. She was Natasha’s biggest fan and attended many events, always cheering her on. She had a great love for her family, friends and her many pets.
There will be a celebration of life on September 16, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 1234 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60004.
