James J. O’Connor

On June 17, 2024, James J. O’Connor was greeted into his heavenly home by his beloved parents, James and Harriet O’Connor, wife, Ruth M. O’Connor; sons, James and William O’Connor; granddaughters, Maggie and Colleen and his Lord and Savior.

Anyone who met Jim would encounter his shenanigans, his twinkling blue eyes and his endless jokes and humor. He will forever be loved and missed by all.

James was a proud United States Navy WW2 Veteran, a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather.

The son of the late James and Harriet (Dowling) O’Connor, James was born on October 10, 1925, in New York, NY.

He married Ruth M. (Mackey) O’Connor on September 11, 1948. Together, James and Ruth shared seventy-four wonderful and faithful years of marriage and raised eight children.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Patricia Traugot (Jules), Kathleen DiMaio (Jeff), Eileen Heuther (Chuck), Mary Rappleyea (Steve), Michael O’Connor (Lisa) and John O’Connor (Ginny); twenty-one grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren;  nephews, nieces, and cousins as well as a host of friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:30 AM on Monday, June 24, 2024, at St. Joseph Church,  34 S Chestnut St, New Paltz, NY 12561 with Rev. Salvatore Cordaro officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans  (www.dav.org) or

St. Jude Children’s Research Foundation (www.stjude.org).
