H. Clark Bell

H. Clark Bell of Woodstock, NY and Hobe Sound, FL, died on December 8, 2025 at his home in Hobe Sound, FL. Mr. Bell was 92 years of age. 

H. Clark Bell was born in Washington, DC, and received his education at Holy Trinity School in Georgetown, St. John’s Prep., Georgetown University, and received a Doctorate of Law from the George Washington University of Law. 

Mr. Bell had served in his long career as a trial attorney, as a staff member of former Congressman J. Ernest Wharton, and former United States Senator Herbert H. Lehman. Mr. Bell had been a member of the Staff of the Evening Star Newspaper in Washington, DC, and was a former member of the United States Central Intelligence Agency in the 50’s and 60’s. 

In 1966, Mr. Bell was elected as a delegate to the Constitutional Convention in the State of New York charged with writing the new State Constitution. In 1968, Mr. Bell was elected to the New York State Assembly representing his home county, Ulster County, and served in the state legislature for many years. 

Mr. Bell was a trial lawyer for 50 years and was a member of the Ulster County Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, New York State Trial Lawyers Association and the American Trial Lawyers Association. 

Mr. Bell, an avid aviator, also served as Director and President of the Lawyer Pilots Bar Association. During his many years in Ulster County, Mr. Bell served on many charitable, educational and eleemosynary Boards, such as the Woodstock Cancer Crusade, the Boy Scouts, the State University of New York at New Paltz Board of Directors, the New Paltz College Foundation and was a long time Member of the Georgetown University Alumni Association Board of Governors. 

Joy Bell, wife of H. Clark Bell, predeceased Mr. Bell in 1999.  Mr. Bell is survived by a son Kieran O. Bell and wife Carolyn of Woodstock, NY, a daughter Bridget Bell McMahon of Annapolis, MD and two grandsons: Reed Webber, wife Ruffa and great grandson Luke Ashley of Strongsville, OH and Chase Webber and girlfriend Madison McBride of Chester, MD and a daughter Kathleen Roberts, husband Josh Roberts and two granddaughters, Hannah and Bella Roberts of Annapolis, MD. Mr. Bell is also survived by his wife Lois Moses Bell. 

Arrangements were entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY. The services for Mr. Bell have already taken place. His final resting spot is at Woodstock Cemetery, Woodstock, NY.
