Faire Millham Hart passed away peacefully March 25, 2025 at the age of 91 at Provision Living, East Lansing MI. We lost a giant that day!
The only daughter of Maud and Schuyler Millham, Faire lived most of her life in New Paltz. She was a graduate of New Paltz High School and attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs. Faire loved everything New Paltz! P&G’s chili, Handmade and More, Little Red House of Gifts, Cherry Hill Plaza, The Old Fort and Ferrante’s were just a few of her favorites over the years. She was raised and raised her family in the Reformed Church on Huguenot Street, her volunteering efforts over the years there too numerous to mention.
She loved the theatre and loved taking ‘her girls’ to Broadway shows in NYC. A woman of towering professional achievements, she had the rare ability to be a friend, mentor and true confidant. Faire started her professional career as Mary Margaret McBride’s on-air assistant for her weekly radio show on WGHQ radio in Kingston. Her proudest professional achievement was working for the Smiley family as Director of Advertising and Public Relations for Mohonk Mountain House. She truly loved Mohonk and the years she spent there.
She loved her family most of all starting with her husband Ashton (Wink) who pre-deceased her in 2004. Wink and Faire are together again at last! Their 52-year marriage was a testament to devotion and dedication to family. Their transformation of a ramshackle bachelor pad in the Adirondacks on Lake Luzerne was a thing to behold and it is there that their and beloved Pup-Pup’s ashes will be spread this summer.
Left to mourn her passing are son Brad Hart, his wife Amy and their children Ashton and Cecelia, Williamsburg, VA; Son Kraig Hart and his wife Dorenna, Kauai, HI, their children Alanna Hart (husband Joe), Adrienne Hart (husband Kip Beach); daughter Mary Faire Lederman and her husband Scott, their children Kathryn (husband Josh and Faire’s first great-granddaughter Nora) East Lansing MI; Sarah Schneyer, Buffalo NY; Johanna Brown, (husband Wade, their children Tessia, Sierra, Israel, and Jordan); Jonathan Lederman (wife Abby); Katherine Krantz (husband Dan and children Saxon and Soren); Jessica Shaw (husband Bill and children Livia, Laine and Claire) and Daniel Lederman.
Special thanks to Mary Faire and Scott for their role in Faire’s care over the last ten plus years. They opened their home to Faire by building an apartment for her where she spent many happy days with her dog Muffin. Mary Faire was a fierce advocate and loving companion for Faire right through her final days. One of her hospice nurses said it best the day before she passed when he said, “Wherever Faire’s going, they’re getting a great one.” Amen to that as we celebrate and remember a truly remarkable person.
