Eric Bernard Wilens of Woodstock, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on September 10th, 2018, after a sudden diagnosis of cancer. Born in London, England on November 12, 1967, Eric’s parents, Sue and Bernie moved permanently to Woodstock in 1969. Eric graduated from Onteora High School in 1986 and immediately embarked on a career in sales. His passion, creativity, and focus drove him to success in several different endeavors. After many exciting years in retail sales, Eric found a home working at WDST. For 17 years he excelled in advertising sales, as well as DJing a weekly radio show. His shows, Retroactive with Eric Wilens, and Front Row, were a great source of joy and pride for him. His incredible work ethic was admired by his family, friends, and colleagues.
Eric’s experience in radio led him to a side career as a wedding DJ. His detail-oriented style, and great love of music, were a perfect fit. After leaving WDST, Eric achieved excellence in multi-level marketing in the energy business, winning the pure energy award from Ambit Energy. At that same time, he formed a mobile app company, Media that Moves, with his partner, Todd Pegelow. His entrepreneurial spirit created immediate success.
The greatest joy of Eric’s life was the birth of his son, Landon Eric Wilens, on August 13th, 2015. In his short time as a father, his devotion and love for Landon was obvious to anyone who encountered him. One couldn’t meet Eric without him sharing a story, or picture, or video of Landon. That love will always endure.
Eric is survived by his mother Sue, his brother Mark, his former wife Robin Giles, Landon’s mother, his niece Thea, his nephew Luc, and his sister in-law Anna Millenson. Services will be held at Lasher Funeral Home in Woodstock, NY on Saturday, September 15th. Friends to be received at 11am with a celebration of Eric’s life at 12pm, followed by his burial at the Woodstock cemetery.
