With love and sadness, we acknowledge the passing of Beth Cramer, 56, in her New Paltz home on September 10th, 2023. She died of ovarian cancer in the loving embrace of her family and friends. She lived for just over six years after diagnosis with intention, purpose, and grace for herself, her loved ones, and the world. Beth is survived by the loves of her life, husband Todd Mathews of 27 years, and her son Noah Mathews, age 18, and their cherished dog Artemis. She is the adored youngest daughter of Miriam and Mike Cramer and baby sister to Mauri (Keith Funger), Karyn (Mike Hollman), and Jill (Rich Lane). She will be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews, Sam, Mireille, Josh, Nicki, and Ella, who are like siblings to Noah.
Beth grew up in Bethesda, MD, and attended Woodward High School. She graduated from Ithaca College in 1989 and moved to New York City. There, she became an accomplished editor, director, and producer of commercials, music videos, and independent films. She produced an award-winning documentary, Plan B, Single Women Choosing Motherhood. She also published the memoir Why Didn’t I Notice Her Before. Her latest works, Brave; Dying To Live and Living To Die, and The Drop Off, are soon to be published.
The gift of Beth Cramer’s messages through her work is universal, raw, and often humorous. As one reviewer writes about her works, “One would be hard-pressed not to look at one’s own life through the lens she so eloquently shares, and this book is a must-read for anyone saddled with regrets, doubts and what ifs.”
Along with her pride in her work, Beth was most grateful for her relationships with her family and friends, for whom she always had an open heart.
If you would like to make a donation in memory of Beth, contributions may be made to the Mohonk Preserve (mohonkpreserve.org). The family is grateful to Hudson Valley Hospice for their support.
A remembrance of Beth for family and loved ones will be held in the coming weeks.
