Kingston police reform group calls for more community engagement, greater oversight

Today, Kingston Police announced the felony arrests of three suspects accused of stealing from and causing serious injury to a 22-year-old victim during a May 5 assault at the Stuyvesant Charter Apartments (also known as Leonard and Vera Van Dyke Apartments).

After an investigation, Davan A. Ramirez-Jackson, 22 and Lemar A. Thomas, 24, both of Kingston, were arrested along with an 18-year-old unnamed defendant. All received charges of gang assault in the 2nd degree and assault in the 2nd degree. Thomas was hit with an additional charge of robbery in the 2nd degree, and the 18-year-old was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the 5th degree and criminal mischief in the 4th degree. The last charge was enacted after the teenager “destroyed” a plexiglas partition at police headquarters.

The victim of the assault was treated for his injuries at Westchester Medical Center and was released.

Processed, arraigned and released were the unnamed teenager and Ramirez-Jackson — Thomas was processed, arraigned and remanded to jail on bail, which he posted.

Police ask anyone with tips to email detectives@kingston-ny.gov or call Detective Michael Defrance at (845) 943-5732.
