Warren Shand, 87, passed away on Thursday, April 10th. He was born on May 12th, 1937 in Cornwall, NY to John Shand and Helen Shand.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kim Shand, his sons John Shand, Dan Shand, Robert Shand all residing in Gardiner, NY, Brendan Shand of Gilbert, AZ, Ryan Shand of Charlottesville, VA, Stuart Shand of Lyndhurst, VA and his daughter, Theresa Shand Colucci of Gardiner, NY. He was predeceased by infant daughter, Barbara Shand. He also leaves behind twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Never one to let the grass grow under his feet, Warren was instrumental in resurrecting the Soap Box Derby along with bringing back the Waynesboro Generals collegiate baseball team. Civic duties included heading up the Waynesboro Redevelopment Committee, being active in the Rotary Club and president of the New Paltz Rod and Gun Club.
The entrepreneurial spirit was not lost on Warren. He owned several successful businesses in his career. They ranged from Farm Products Corp in NY and Waynesboro Glass and Mirror, but the most rewarding venture was raising and breeding alpacas for the last 20 years. This took Warren and Kim all over the country with their show quality herd, participating in auctions and shows.
His remains will be interred in the family plot in New Paltz, NY at a private service on May 5.
