After 93 years, Gardiner farm market and ice cream stand to close

Tantillo’s Farm Market and Ice Cream, located in Gardiner, has been a family-owned and operated establishment for 93 years. In 1932, Frank Tantillo transformed a former dairy farm into a fruit and vegetable farm. Since then, four generations of the Tantillo family have kept the business alive — until now.

“As some of you may have learned,” the owners wrote on social media, “we will not be opening Tantillo’s Farm Market and Ice Cream going forward. Making this choice was not easy.
The ever-changing times, rising costs and endless hours that come with operating a small business have all contributed to our decision.”

The owners also cited the desire to spend more time with their children and grandchildren, having missed out on summer and fall activities while working at the market.

“We will certainly miss you, our customers, the notoriety you have given us, and the friends we have made along the way,” they wrote.

Tantillo’s left open the possibility of doing local pop-ups in the future, featuring their famous cider donuts.

The family plans on a more formal farewell for the market on Sat., April. 26th, when they invite customers to “please stop by and say hello and goodbye, tell your favorite story or just for a hug.”

The owners are asking customers to share photos and memories online.
