Ulster’s Acting County Clerk Taylor Bruck announces election run

Ulster County residents are still mourning the recent passing of beloved longtime Ulster County Clerk Nina Postupack. Two months before she lost her two-year battle with cancer, Postupack installed Taylor John Bruck in her stead as Acting County Clerk, and on Sun. December 1, Bruck announced on Facebook he was running to be elected as the official Ulster County Clerk.

“As a lifelong Kingston resident, I’ve spent the past eight years working in the Clerk’s Office, first as Ulster County Archivist, then as Deputy County Clerk, and now as Acting County Clerk,” Bruck wrote. “I’m passionate about making local government more accessible and transparent. I’ve seen how important it is to make government easier to access—whether that’s digitizing records, extending DMV hours, or providing better resources for people navigating the process, like multilingual forms and bilingual staff.”

Whereas the County Clerk position is often a launching pad for more ambitious political careers, Bruck has said he seeks to follow Postupack’s example of a lifelong dedication to Ulster.

“It would mean the world to me if I could finish my career as County Clerk,” Bruck said in a previous interview. “I don’t have any other career ambitions and I didn’t take the job for power.”

What does the Ulster County Clerk do? They are responsible for recording and maintaining a variety of public records and providing administrative services to county residents. This includes managing land and property records, handling court records for civil and criminal cases, and processing business filings. The office also offers public access to these documents, assists with pistol permit applications, provides notary public services, acts as a passport acceptance agency, and preserves historical archives significant to the county’s heritage.
