April Joan McCormack

April Joan McCormack, born in Danbury Connecticut, passed on October 2nd, 2024 at the age of 82 in Afton, New York. April lived in Afton NY for the last 20 years with her longtime companion, John Edman. Prior to that she was a resident of New Paltz NY for nearly 30 years. April was the daughter of Edith and George Mathews. 

April was a loving and caring Mother to her two sons George and Thomas. She was an artist and a woman of many talents.  April managed a number of businesses in her lifetime, including MBP advertising in Poughkeepsie, NY and Flora Dorain New Paltz, NY. April made a lasting and positive impact on many families with her deeds as the Assistant Director of Family of New Paltz and her time at the Salvation Army,

April had a love of painting, gardening and birds. She enjoyed all aspects of sports and loved playing softball as well as supporting her son George throughout his high school and college football career. To her three grandsons Brett, Michael, and Sean, she is beloved “Grandma April.” April is predeceased by her parents, George and Edith Mathews, and her son Thomas Francis.  She is survived by her son George McCormack and his wife Kristen and her three grandsons.

The family will receive friends at the Copeland-Hammerl Funeral Home, 162 S. Putt Corners Rd., New Paltz, NY on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 from 10:30am – 11:30am.

A memorial service will take place at the funeral home at 11am.

An inurnment will follow at New Paltz Rural Cemetery.
