James Paul Monte (Giacomo)

The family of  James Paul Monte sadly announces the death of their brother.  James resided in New Paltz and  passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 7th at Hudson Valley Hospice House in Hyde Park.

James, also known as Jimmy, was the son of Thomas and Mary Nicosia Monte. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 8, 1944. Jimmy was graduated as valedictorian  of the Class of 1962 from Marlborough High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from SUNY Albany and a Masters of Arts from the University of Iowa. He was a teaching assistant at the University of  Reims in France.

Jim, also known as Giacomo, was a local artist.  He participated in many art shows at The Unframed Artists Gallery in New Paltz. He loved collecting antiques, and for many years assisted Viki Jackson at Aphrodite Antique Shop. An avid gardener, he loved growing vegetables and flowers. Having learned to cook in France, he prepared many delicious dishes using the fresh vegetables and herbs he grew. He was a frequent visitor at the Elting Memorial Library where he spent many hours reading and selecting books, music, and movies.

Predeceased by his parents, Jimmy is survived by sisters, Constance Catalinotto (Michael) of Saugerties, Michelene McManus (James) of Milton; a brother, Angelo Monte of Ocala, Florida; a sister-in-law, Virginia Monte of Doylestown, Pennsylvania; nieces Maria Price, (Thomas), Catherine Santoro (James), and Gina Monte; nephews Michael E. Catalinotto, Jr, Mark T. Catalinotto, James (Jamie) McManus and Thomas Monte(Carlota); seven grandnieces and a grandnephew also survive.

Family would like to thank all the nurses and staff at Hospice House for the excellent care and compassion he received during his illness. Funeral services were held privately under the direction of Buono Funeral Service in Saugerties, New York.
