Snug Harbor is a true treasure of the Ulster County music scene. It has survived for decades with just two simple ingredients: adventurous music and lots of alcohol.
Colloquially known as “Snug’s”, this dive bar features a trough-style urinal, zero frills, and a bay window from which passersby can catch glimpses of bands ranging from hardcore metal to jazzy jam band. On show nights, the place is often packed with sweaty throngs of college kids, punks, booze hounds and local music fans.
The Kingston Zoo is a new addition to our local scene, a supergroup of talented local rock musicians who have made the rounds with other bands, and have now coalesced into an unpredictable lineup blending many genres into a constantly shifting soundscape. The Zoo includes guitarists Billy Riker (3) and Chris Heitzman (Mercury Rev), bassist Richie Touseull (Geezer), vocalist Earl Lundy (Shadow Witch, Voodelic), and drummer Justin Zipperle (Shadow Witch).
Snug’s is so punk they only have a Facebook page to list shows, and this one’s wasn’t even listed at press time (they often wait until the last minute). That makes you in the know!
