The Williams Lake Project (WLP) wrapped up its public summer swim fundraiser in partnership with the Town of Rosendale with a final Labor Day swim on September 4. More than 3,500 swimmers came to enjoy the Williams Lake beach front throughout the nine three-day weekends, including Rosendale and Ulster County residents, tourists, camp groups, sports teams and more.
“The Williams Lake Project would like to thank the Town of Rosendale and all our guests, beach staff, volunteers and sponsors for making the summer swim weekends a big success,” said Brian Cafferty, WLP’s public outreach coordinator.
According to Cafferty, even with record cool temperatures limiting attendance on several of the weekend swim days, generous sponsor contributions and admission fees helped cover the costs of advertising, beach-front restoration, lifeguards and administrative staff.
“By all accounts the summer swim program was a great success,” added Cafferty. “Many area residents commented that they were grateful for the opportunity to swim at the lake again and for the chance to say goodbye to the old resort.”
The Williams Lake Project will make a donation of $10,000.00 to the Rosendale Pool Fund. “We are pleased to continue our support of the ongoing fundraising efforts by the Town of Rosendale and local organizations as work has begun on the new town pool, expected to reopen in 2015,” said Cafferty.
