In December, Hudson Valley One reported that the Gardiner Town Board had voted to begin charging a fee of $.25 per kilowatt-hour after the first two hours of usage of the EV charging station at the Gardiner Library. At the January 4 Town Board meeting, Town supervisor Marybeth Majestic announced that she had been informed that the charging station could not track price per KWH, but only per hour or minute of time.
According to Majestic, Jason Mayer, coordinator of the Climate Smart Gardiner Taskforce, suggested $1 per hour of charging time as typical of what other towns are doing. The Town Board voted unanimously to adopt that approach.
The new policy will take effect in June, upon the expiration of local business subsidies for the service that made charging free for the station’s first two years of operation. The first two hours of charging time will remain free, even after that deadline.
