Marie Anna Schmalkuche 87, of Wallingford, CT, formerly of New Paltz, NY passed away peacefully at Masonicare Nursing Home on Friday, July 9, 2021.
Born November 7, 1933, in Greenwich, Connecticut she was the daughter of the late Frederick J. and Charlotte (Lewis) Perkins.
On July 2, 1955, Marie married the love of her life, William F. Schmalkuche, Jr., in Port Chester, NY. They had over 64 happy years together before his passing in 2019.
Marie was a teacher for Wappingers Central School System in Wappingers Falls, until her retirement in 1989. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star; enjoyed painting, knitting, and spreading the love and peace of Jesus Christ through her music, love, kindness and laughter.
In addition to her parents, Marie was predeceased by her brothers Frederick J. Perkins, Jr., and James L. Perkins.
Survivors include her children, Susan Weser of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Fred Schmalkuche and his wife, Alice, of Highland, NY; Bill Schmalkuche and his wife, Kathy, of Monroe, CT; her grandchildren, Bill, Katie and Amy Schmalkuche, Amy and Brendan Bishopp, Bill and Kristin Herrmann; her four great-grandchildren, Maggie, Collin, Gavin, and Ella; and her sister Monema Garrity of Port Richey, FL.
Friends are welcome to a Memorial Service on Sunday, September 26 at 2:00 pm at Lloyd United Methodist Church, 476 New Paltz Road, Highland, NY. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be sent to the Lloyd United Methodist Church, (c/o Gail Erdie, 43 Dubois Road, New Paltz, NY 12561).
