Jane St. Amour, currently business manager at the Spencer-Van Etten school district near Ithaca, will officially take on the role of business manager of the Saugerties school system on July 1. “Saugerties is a great school district with a supportive board of education and community, and I am looking forward to getting to know everyone and immerse myself in the excellent things that are happening here in Saugerties,” said St. Amour.
St. Amour earned her bachelor’s degree from Binghamton University’s School of Management. Her first professional experience came as an accountant for Broome County from May 1999 through August 2001. Then she became an internal auditor for the county, a position she held through November 2007. In December 2007, St. Amour became deputy treasurer of Tioga County, leaving for the role of school business executive for the Great Southern Tier BOCES in January 2011.
She’s been with the Spencer-Van Etten district since July 2015.
The Saugerties school district has been without a permanent business manager since the departure of Lissa Jilek last fall, with Warren Donohue and Donald Gottlieb each serving in the role in an interim capacity. St. Amour will earn an annual salary of $135,000.
“It will be challenging to learn as much as I can about the SCSD as fast as I can and hit the ground running when I get there in July,” said St, Amour. “My goals as the business manager are to provide sound financial leadership to the SCSD by working with the board of education and the superintendent to provide students with an education to help all students meet their potential and at the same time being fiscally responsible to the community.”
Incumbents are unopposed
Three incumbent trustees on the Saugerties school board will be unchallenged this year. No opponents filed to run against them. Katie Emerson-Hoss, Elena Maskell and Paul VanSchaack all have a clear path to reelection at the polls on Tuesday, May 21. Local residents will decide the fate of the district’s $65.2-million budget proposal for the 2019-20 school year.
Polls will be open at all four of the district’s elementary schools from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m.
