The City of Kingston’s snow emergency for Winter Storm Juno will begin 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26 and is set to end 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, according to the city superintendent of public works.
During the emergency, no vehicles may be parked on city streets; those which remain will be towed and ticketed. According to the city, snow emergency parking/alternate side of the street parking will be in effect as posted on designated streets. City-owned parking lots may be used during the emergency but — and this is a big but — cars must be removed from those lots as soon as the emergency is lifted so the lots can be cleared. Vehicles left in lots will be ticketed and towed;Â lots, states the city, will reopen immediately after snow clearing is complete.
Refuse and recycling pickup has been suspended for Tuesday Jan. 27. The city asks residents to please clear a space for refuse and recycling totes so they may be properly collected when pick up continues.
“Residents are expected to clear public walkways adjoining their property and no snow shall be pushed, thrown or blown onto any public street by any resident or contractor,” states the city press release.
Snow emergency routes will remain priorities for clearing. Secondary streets “will be maintained as best [as] possible throughout the storm,” the city states. Residents are asked to limit travel during the storm and afford public works crews consideration during snow clearing operations.
Kingston City Bus will operate on Winter Weather Routes, beginning 4:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 26, unless otherwise posted.
