Sound both the wedding and the inauguration bells! After defeating Democratic opponent Aidan O’Connor for a seat in the state Assembly on Nov. 6, Christopher Tague has decided to combine his swearing-in on Jan. 1 with his wedding ceremony.
“The same people that I would invite to my swearing-in are the same people to invite to my wedding,” explained Tague. “Why do two things when I could have everything at once?”
Tague, 48, had initially set his wedding date to fiancée Dana Buzon for New Year’s Eve before deciding to combine the two events. He said that the processes of campaigning and canvassing got in the way of wedding planning.
“We were so busy that we decided that we’re going to push the wedding off until next spring,” he said at the time, before announcing the twofold ceremony in a Dec. 18 press release. “I told her last night that we can be friends again now. She’s a wonderful woman, the best thing that’s ever happened to me, and when she gets home we’re going to make our plans for what, where and when.”
The event will begin at 5 p.m. on Jan. 1 at SUNY Cobleskill’s Bouck Ballroom. Tague said that, although he is being sworn into state government, it will be “a day of no politics.”
“The bride is happy and that’s the most important thing. As long as she’s happy,” said Tague. “It’s going to be a great day. We’re going to celebrate our love together and my next term in office with our friends and families.”
On Tague’s radar for next year in the Assembly is an ethics bill that he plans to submit that would impose term limits on Assembly members. He also will seek provisions to incentivize schools to purchase local farmers’ milk.
