Looking for a sociable but alcohol-free, activity-centered way to spend New Year’s Eve? Preferably one where you can get a jump-start on your resolution to exercise more in 2019? Set your sights on the Ashokan Center in Olivebridge, where the annual New Year’s Eve Dance Party gets underway with a family-style dinner at 6 p.m. The menu, which includes vegan and gluten-free options, looks amazing.
The dancing begins at 8 p.m. in two separate dancehalls, one featuring swing, Cajun and waltzes and the other contras and squares. There will also be a late-night zydeco lounge. High-energy live music goes on all evening, featuring Jay Ungar & Molly Mason with Swingology; Cajun music by Balfa Toujours; Andrew VanNorstrand, Anna Patton and Amy Engelsberg; and Zydegroove with Mitch Reed.
Admission for the dance only costs $30 for adults, $15 for youth; $30 more gets you dinner; $75 more reserves you a bunk and breakfast, if you’d like to stay off the roads. Not a bad place to wake up in a New Year – perhaps even a new era!
