“An incredible event that features the diverse artists, performers, arts-based businesses and organizations who are contributing to and sustaining Kingston’s growth and creative renaissance” is Kingston mayor Steve Noble’s description of Art Walk Kingston, coming up for its third annual outing this weekend. As if getting an eyeful (and earful) of how the arts community is turning the city around weren’t enough of an incentive to attend, consider this: More than 130 artists will exhibit work during Art Walk Kingston, making it the largest open studio tour in the Hudson Valley.

The weekend begins with a preview of select artworks at the Artbar Gallery at 674 Broadway from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, September 21. This free reception will give visitors an opportunity to see the variety of artists participating in this event. From noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, September 22 and 23, artists will throw open their studios and galleries will host special events in the Rondout, Midtown and Uptown Kingston. Some of the studios are located in historic Kingston warehouses, others in artists’ homes.

Experiential events during the Art Walk Kingston weekend include exhibits by the Department of Regional Art Workers at the YMCA, where you’ll be serenaded by Wayne Montecalvo, Warren Perrins and Dean Jones. O+ mural tours happen on Saturday night, gathering after tour hours at Keegan Ales. The Prince Street Studio will preview the Center for Photography at Woodstock’s Award & Benefit Auction, and photographer Tom DeLooza will operate his popular tintype photobooth.

Locations of participating artist studios and galleries, as well as parking lots, are indicated on the Art Walk maps of each of the three walkable neighborhoods of Kingston. Print maps are available at Catskill Arts at 328 Wall Street, Rough Draft bar & books at 82 John Street, the Storefront Gallery at 93 Broadway, the Artbar Gallery at 674 Broadway and the Idea Garden at 346 Broadway. A link to the online version of the map, along with lots of info about all the participating artists and venues, can be found at https://artsmidhudson.org/artwalkkingston.
