This Wednesday, Sept. 17 from 5-8 p.m., cyclists will fill the streets of Kingston on a three-part journey known as the “Feast on Two Wheels.” The annual fundraiser was created by Bike-Friendly Kingston, an advocacy group that promotes improvements that would make the city more “bike-able.” Over the course of three hours, ticket-holders will bike from Uptown to Midtown to the Rondout, with stops along the way for food and conversation. Tickets can be purchased online at https://feaston2wheels2014.eventbrite.com.
This year, riders will enjoy appetizers from Santa Fe (11 Main St.), vegetarian or chicken tamales from Just For You (375 Broadway), and dessert at the Kingston Home Port and Education Center at the Hudson River Maritime Museum (50 Rondout Landing), provided by Grounded, a new bakery opening on lower Broadway.
The proceeds from tickets will help fund future Bike Friendly Projects including expansion of the pilot installation of “sharrows” along Delaware Avenue, a bike-ped master plan, a bike rack art installation contest and bike parking at Kingston events.
The feast begins with appetizers at 5 at Santa Fe on 11 Main Street. After stopping at Just For You, the group will arrive at the Maritime Museum by 7, where local and county representatives will be on hand to talk about bicycle-friendly projects that are currently in the works. In addition to a fun ride and great food, this event is a great opportunity for attendees to learn more about Bike Friendly Kingston’s work and how they can help support the group’s mission to make Kingston the best city in the Hudson Valley for bicycling.
Parking is available at Dietz Stadium in uptown Kingston and in the municipal lot near Gallo Park in the Rondout. Participants should plan to bike back to Uptown after the conclusion of the event (about two miles each way), or should park downtown and ride to the start location in Uptown before the event begins at 5 p.m.
