This past Sunday, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the Frozen Caboose, an ice cream store that recently opened on Haviland Road near the entrance to the Walkway Over the Hudson in Highland. The owners are local Highlanders Joe and Jeannie Valentino, and the ribbon-cutting ceremony included representatives of the Lloyd Town Board, the Lloyd Events Committee and the Southern Ulster Chamber of Commerce.

“It’s something we’ve been doing to celebrate new businesses opening up in Highland,” said Kate Jonietz, the confidential secretary to the town supervisor.

“I think it’s great to see a family-owned-and-operated business open in town with such close proximity to the Walkway Over the Hudson and we wish them all the success in the world, said Lloyd Town supervisor Paul Hansut. “I’ve gained at least 20 pounds since they opened.”

The supervisor noted that this business also made use of the town’s revolving loan fund. “They approached our Revolving Loan Fund Committee, who was very enthusiastic about their project. And that’s what the revolving loan is here for: to help local businesses get started, and see them grow and hopefully flourish.”

The Frozen Caboose offers ice cream, milkshakes, smoothies, frozen fruit drinks and much more.
