At the next Highland Central School District Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, March 20, the board will vote on whether to support an $8 million capital project that would allow the district to continue with infrastructure and safety upgrades with no additional tax impact to the community. If approved, the proposition will go before voters on Tuesday, May 15.
The Support Services Committee and building level administration have developed a list of needed districtwide safety and building improvements that include a sewer pump upgrade at the high school along with replacement of HVAC dampers, work on the library roof, replacement of stage curtains in the auditorium, an upgrade of heat in locker room storage and building perimeter lighting. The middle school needs an upgrade of emergency lighting and rehabilitation of the basketball court. The bus garage needs a generator and the elementary school an upgrade to unit vents, heating system and building perimeter lighting. The complete list of work the project would allow is on the district website at www.highland-k12.org.
The public’s input is welcome. Public comment is taken at the beginning of each board meeting, or contact Superintendent of Schools Thomas Bongiovi with any suggestions in person at the district offices at 320 Pancake Hollow Road or at (845) 691-1014 or tbongiovi@highland-k12.org.
