A Columbia County man fired at Sheriff’s Deputies and State Troopers responding to a domestic dispute last night, but no one was hurt, police said.
At approximately 10:25 p.m., Columbia County Deputies and State Troopers arrived at a domestic dispute on Rt. 22 in the town of Hillsdale possibly involving a shotgun. According to police, when they arrived, the suspect exited the residence and fired the shotgun at the patrols. The suspect, identified as Tyler Meltz, 23, of Hillsdale, was later found hiding in a nearby vehicle. He was taken into custody without further incident and arrested for third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree reckless endangerment, both felonies.
Meltz was arraigned before the town of Claverack Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $35,000 cash bail or $70,000 bond.
The New York State Police were also assisted by the Hillsdale Fire Department, Austerlitz Fire Department, Community Rescue, and the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office.
