The election is less than two weeks away. Ms. Ciarlante is still using scare tactics in telling the public that the United Nations is going to take over our way of life in Saugerties and she grossly overstates budget increases for the last four years. People that do not agree with her political thinking are referred to as communist doctrine followers. The current supervisor is using social media to retell untruths. I have already defended her accusation of missing documents in town hall, a very serious accusation. There is not one document missing from town hall, not one, she is not telling the truth. There are other untruths being said, she has obviously learned Roberti Jr.’s way of politicking. Throw enough “stuff” against a wall and some of it will stick.
I ask for your support on Election Day. I will manage the budget effectively as I have in the past, I will bring back my strong economic development initiatives, I will treat all employees civilly, I will keep the Town Board aware and involved in everything going on in the town, I will explore more shared services initiatives, I will show a commitment to our local Chamber of Commerce and most of all I will be truthful.
Two years ago some thought it was time for a change, many of those same people are now telling me we need you back, “the grass was not as green on the other side of the fence” as thought. Another popular phrase in sports currently applies to town government, “there is no I in team.”
I close with a quote that is very apropos, “ I offer my opponents a bargain: if they will stop telling lies about us, I will stop telling the truth about them.” -Adlai Stevenson, campaign speech, 1952.
