The new Hannaford Supermarket at the site of the former Hurley Ridge market opened earlier this week.
On Saturday, September 2, the big Maine-based chain’s 50th store in New York State will hold a grand opening gala for its new community starting with a 6:30 a.m. ribbon cutting.
In addition to getting a chance to take in all of the renovated 26,000-square-foot store’s offerings — including “hundreds of organic and natural items and premium-quality Taste of Inspiration deli meats and cheeses at an affordable price,” the day’s first 200 customers will receive gift cards randomly valued between $5 and $250, product samplings from local vendors, door prizes, sweepstakes, and other activities.
“In conjunction with the Grand Opening event, Hannaford will present $10,000 in donations to the community — $5000 to both the Onteora Central School District and the Good Neighbor Food Pantry,” noted the company, which operates 180 stores in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont, as well as New York, in a recent press release.
Familiar faces, Sushi
As for what one can expect to see in the new store…
“There will be a lot of familiar faces for former customers of Hurley Ridge Market,” noted Hannaford’s spokesperson Eric Blom. “More than two dozen of that company’s former employees have been hired after applying for positions at Hannaford. Other full- and part-time openings were filled locally as well. We had a job fair and engaged in other recruitment efforts in the area. The store will have more than 75 positions overall.”
And that other big question Woodstockers have?
“Yes,” Blom answered, “We will have sushi made right in the store.”
