S202 boys state papers sThe Lamouree-Hackett American Legion Post #72 welcomed the 2013 Boys’ State delegates to the membership meeting on Thursday, Sept. 19. Hunter Igoe, Corey Curran and Christopher LaTourette, all of Saugerties High School, and Spencer Drakontaidis of John A. Coleman Catholic High School each successfully represented the post at New York Boys’ State this summer, where they participated in an intensive program on the workings of a democratic government and earned certificates of achievement. Drakontaidis was unable to attend the meeting due to a prior commitment with the Civil Air Patrol of which he is a member, but he will be invited to a later meeting of the post to be presented with his certificate.
Igoe, Curran and LaTourette expressed their gratitude to the post and to the Saugerties Elks Lodge for sponsoring them. They described their experience as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn more about the freedoms our nation provides. They said that it was a humbling experience to meet so many talented people and that they gained even more respect for the veterans who sacrificed so much over the years to keep our country free. Each of the delegates was elected to a position of trust in the Boys’ State government, and the American Legion Post #72 is proud of the excellent manner in which they and the community were represented by the young men.
