Lloyd Lowes Home Improvement sent a modest army of angels to help Ascension Holy Trinity (AHT) Mission Center food pantry and clothing closet last week to the food pantry and free clothing closet to make sure no one ever has to struggle to walk through the door. Lowe’s assisted with replacement of back and front entrance steps, decking and doors, as well as the installation of a ramp to create safe access for food pantry visitors and volunteers. The company donated everything from nuts to bolts required to complete the project, including the labor. Work began on Wednesday, August 9. “Our gratitude to Lowe’s runs deep,” said Mary Ellison, the director of AHT Mission Center. “It’s one thing for a business to routinely market itself as valuing community. It’s quite another to actually invest capital — both human and material — in community programs that transform lives. The Lowe’s Heroes program volunteers embody service, partnership and social responsibility. They are changing lives by helping to create a culture of compassion and caring.” The building is also used by Faith church for weekly meetings and counseling sessions.
The pantry serves over 500 visitors a month, many of whom are children and seniors. It operates with more than 20 community volunteers, some of whom are pantry guests as well. It is open every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon and 6 to 8 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. to noon and also on a 24/7 emergency basis. The free clothing closet is open during normal pantry hours, and there is a backpack program as well. For more information about the pantry’s services, please call (845) 384-6723.
