Last night at 7 p.m. Ulster County 911 received a call for a missing kayaker on the Hudson.
The kayaker, Tyler Brinkhuis, 20, of Glasco, had launched from the Glasco Mini Park at approximately 4:30 p.m. and was supposed to have returned by 6:30 p.m.
The Glasco Fire Department and the Ulster Hose Fire Department were dispatched with their marine units. After approximately a half-hour search the Glasco Fire Department located Brinkhuis in the water. Brinkhuis explained that the river had suddenly become rough, causing his kayak to overturn. Brinkuis reported that he was in the water for over an hour using his submerged kayak to stay afloat. Brinkhuis was returned to shore and was evaluated and released by Diaz ambulance.
The Saugerties Police department was assisted by the Glasco Fire Department, the Ulster Hose Fire department, Diaz ambulance, the New York State Police and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Department.
