A Kingston woman suffered serious injuries after she was dragged by one car and struck by another following a fight at a Town of Ulster intersection.
According to Town of Ulster police, the incident occurred around 10:33 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14 when cops responded to a report of car vs. pedestrian accident at the intersection of Route 32 and Route 9W. When officers arrived, they discovered Nyasia A. Mayers, 21, of Kingston on Route 32 with injuries to her head and torso. According to police, investigation revealed that Mayers was injured after she exited her vehicle at the intersection and approached a 2009 Nissan Versa driven by Natasha McCoy, 25, of Napanoch.
Police say Mayers engaged in a “physical altercation” with McCoy, then became entangled in her vehicle and was flung to the pavement as McCoy attempted to flee. Police say Mayers was in the roadway when she was struck by a 2015 Nissan Altima driven by Shawn M. Smith, 36, of Lake Katrine. Police say Smith struck a guardrail when he took evasive action in an unsuccessful effort to avoid hitting Mayers.
Mayers was treated at the scene by members of Ulster Hose and Mobile Life before being transported by Life Net helicopter to Westchester Medical Center with serious injuries. No charges have been filed and police say the investigation is ongoing. Town of Ulster police were assisted at the scene by the Kingston Police Department and state troopers.
