The New Paltz Police Department is investigating a vehicle vs. pedestrian hit and run accident that occurred in the early morning of May 7.
At approximately 4:30 a.m. that morning, New Paltz Police responded to two 911 calls reporting that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian and left the scene.
The victim and several witnesses were walking in the Southside Apartment parking lot when a vehicle approached quickly from the rear of the complex. The victim was struck by the front driver side area of the offending vehicle and knocked to the ground. The other witnesses at the scene yelled for the driver to stop. The offending vehicle is believed to be a dark colored sport utility vehicle that was last seen leaving the area towards Plains Rd.
The victim was transported to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries and has since been released from the hospital but is continuing medical treatment.
The New Paltz Police Department is asking anyone who may have information about this incident to call the New Paltz Police Department at 255-1323. A $1,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the offender from this incident. All calls will be kept confidential.
Update: The reward has since been raised to $10,000.
