The Onteora High School Science Olympiad team earned 38 medals in an team effort that led to a 3rd place finish out of 30 teams at the Mid-Hudson Regional Science Olympiad Competition, February 4.
The team earned the right to compete at the New York State Science Olympiad Competition next month in Syracuse at Le Moyne College, where the best 54 Science Olympiad teams in New York will put their skills and knowledge to the test.
Standout performances included ones by Allison Ryan and Jackie Katz, who placed first in Helicopters; Grace Tytus and Lindsy Voelker, who placed first in Remote Sensing and third in Herpetology; Alexa Maldonado, who placed second in Herpetology; Spencer Cornelis and Maia Amellio, who placed second in Robot Arm; Maia Amellio and Pia Roels, who placed third in Disease Detectives; James Davis and Garrett Gramzow, who placed third in Optics; and Satch Sumner-Waldman and Adam Savage, who placed third in Hydrogeology.
