New Paltz resident Roman Iwasiwka was part of Camera 5, an elite agency of celebrity- and culture-attuned photographers associated with the late, great American photojournalist Ken Regan, a photographer who gained a rare level of intimate access to the lives of the famous and influential. Iwasiwka himself has covered rock performances since 1982, working exclusively for part of that time with the great American ringmaster of rock concerts, Bill Graham. Over the course of his career, he has also photographed Andy Warhol, Michael Jackson, Neil Young, Tina Turner and many more.
The Falcon in Marlboro – a two-venue musical multiplex in Marlboro with a longstanding interest in visual arts as well – is currently featuring Iwasiwka’s rock photo retrospective on its spacious walls. The show is a natural complement to the Avalon Archives rock museum that currently fills every available square foot of wall space in the Falcon Underground, one floor down from the main club. The 14 Iwasiwka photographs on display and for sale include performance shots of U2, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Page, John Entwistle, Mick Jagger, Joni Mitchell and Elvis Costello. Iwasiwka will be on hand for a meet-and-greet on Saturday, January 28 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
