After receiving approval last year to build Country Meadows, a 42-unit mixed-use affordable housing development on North Street, Premier Development will be back before the Saugerties village planning board January 11 seeking to have that approval amended. Its new proposal is for 53 units of market-price housing.

For more than five years, Premier tried to get state aid to help build the 42 units, which would have included senior housing and housing for autistic individuals. The developer tried four times to get that aid, but each time, the most recent earlier this year, failed to gain state approval.

Premier officials have now given up their hope of getting state aid and are coming back before the local planning board seeking approval for market-priced housing. The January 11 meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Saugerties Fire Department’s meeting room at 43 Partition Street.
