With their fourth release, Friends Share Lovers, the great Northampton, Massachusetts-area indie rock band And the Kids finally realize in the studio what has been apparent to concertgoers from the band’s very beginnings: that this is a band possessed of an otherworldly and richly musical magic. Two self-released EPs and one other full-length on Signature Sounds Records have all been pointing in this direction, but Friends Share Lovers still manages to exceed expectations. The band has endured much to get to this point, including the deportation of a founding member, keyboardist Meghan Miller, and the ill-timed kibosh that that put on touring in support of their first full-length, 2015’s Turn to Each Other.
On Friday, October 21 at 8 p.m., And the Kids perform at the Half Moon in Hudson with the skittish Beefheartian art-rockers and ATK tourmates Palm, as well as the Woodstock/Kingston area dark-pop band Battle Ave. on the bill.
