Kingston cops seek leads in fatal hit-and-run

Police: New Paltz motorist struck bicyclist causing serious injury, then fled

A woman was dragged to her death behind a minivan following a dispute in Midtown Kingston last week. Now detectives are asking for the public’s help in tracking down the driver.

Ashlee Crescione, 23, of Kingston died at Albany Medical Center on Friday, Sept. 23, three days after she suffered severe head trauma in a hit-and-run incident on Bruyn Avenue. Kingston police say they were called to Bryun Avenue between Elmendorf and Downs Street around 4:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20 for a report of a dispute. When cops arrived, they discovered Crescione lying in the street with a severe head injury. Further investigation revealed that Crescione was having a dispute with an unidentified male in the moments before she was injured. According to police, at some point the man got into a minivan and drove away. Crescione was dragged a short distance, then fell, causing the fatal head wound.

Crescione had in 2015 survived being hit by a freight train while walking along tracks in the Town of Ulster.

Police describe the driver of the minivan as a white male in his 20s or early 30s with piercing blue eyes and dirty blonde hair wearing a white T-shirt. Cops say he was driving a newer-model gray minivan, possibly with tinted rear windows. The vehicle was last spotted making a left turn from Bruyn Avenue onto Downs Street heading towards Foxhall Avenue.

Police are asking anyone with information in the case to contact the KPD’s Detective Division at (845) 331-1671 or via the department’s anonymous tip line at(845) 331-4499. Tips may also be submitted via anonymous text using the “submit a tip” app available on the KPD’s Facebook page.
