ktx K101 sheriffs badgeA New Paltz man is facing a child endangerment charge after, Ulster County sheriff deputies said, he left his infant alone in a car while he went to the DMV in Uptown Kingston.

According to deputies, on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 15, Seth Peress-Teeter, 35, had left the child by his or herself in a vehicle in the parking lot of the County Office Building on Fair Street while he went in to conduct business at the the Department of Motor Vehicles. Deputies said they found the infant, whom they identified as Peress-Teeter’s child, alone in a locked vehicle on an 85-plus-degree day with the engine off and the windows “only partially open.”  Deputies got into the car and took the child out. The infant was not injured, deputies said, and was released to a family member. Child Protective Services was notified, deputies said.

Peress-Teeter was arrested and charged with misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child, deputies said. He was arraigned in Esopus Town Court and sent to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $500 cash bail or a $1,000 secured bond.
