Two 58-year-old Cottekill men were killed Wednesday afternoon when their pickup truck hit a tree in Rosendale, Ulster County sheriff’s deputies said. According to a preliminary investigation, deputies said, neither were wearing seatbelts.
According to deputies, the crash occurred at the intersection of Lucas Avenue and Tan House Brook Road in the Town of Rosendale at about 3:30 p.m. The driver, Ronald Myroniuk, was found unconscious and trapped inside the 1996 Dodge Ram. He was extricated by firefighters and pronounced dead at the scene. The front seat passenger, Robert Myroniuk, was seriously injured and flown by helicopter to Westchester Medical Center, where he later died of his injuries, deputies said.
Deputies said their preliminary investigation found neither Myroniuk was wearing a seatbelt, although the driver’s-side airbag deployed. The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Town of Rosendale Police, fire departments from Cottekill, High Falls, Stone Ridge and Marbletown and Mobile Life Support Ambulance Service.
