When Steve Jordan closed his New Paltz photography gallery after a 16-year run, the longtime Mohonk Preserve supporter decided to dedicate the proceeds from the closing weekend to the Preserve, the inspiration for many of his images. Thanks to Jordan’s generosity and the strong turnout for the event, Mohonk Preserve received a check for $12,000 toward restoration of 3.1 miles of the historic Trapps Carriage Road.

”Supporting the Trapps Carriage Road restoration was a perfect fit, since I often use the carriage road network to reach the locations for my photo shoots,” Jordan said. “These same carriage roads also provide easy access to nature for Preserve visitors of all ages and interests, from rock climbing and mountain biking to hiking and cross-country skiing.”

Over the years, Jordan has been a frequent contributor to the Preserve. He has produced an annual calendar featuring images of the Preserve, along with natural history information from the Preserve’s Daniel Smiley Research Center. Along with local New Paltz businessman Craig Shankles, Jordan also produced the Preserve’s 50th anniversary poster. Most recently, he created a promotional video for Rock The Ridge, the Preserve’s 50-mile endurance challenge.

“We are very grateful to Steve for his longtime support of the Preserve,” said Mohonk Preserve executive director Glenn Hoagland. “We deeply appreciate this extremely generous gesture and look forward to continuing to collaborate with Steve on future projects to connect people to the beauty and inspiration of nature in their lives.”

Jordan will continue to operate his online gallery at www.jordangallery.com, as he also expands his video production operation.
