On Sunday, Nov. 3 the Gardiner Parks & Recreation Committee dedicated the Paul M. Mele Community and Recreation Center at George Majestic Memorial Park in Gardiner. Paul M. Mele, who passed away Nov. 28, 1998, was remembered for his love of sports and community. His parents, Emily and Paul, joined by his sister Rosanne and brother Carmine and their families, were on hand for the ceremony. The building was made possible through the generosity of the Mele family, Rosemarie Williams and her family and many local individuals and businesses who volunteered their time and services. The project was coordinated by efforts of the Gardiner Parks and Recreation Committee.
The center will be used by the Gardiner summer recreation program to expand its activities and provide shelter during inclement weather. It will also be used for community events and will be made available to residents for their own functions through the Park and Recreation Committee.
