The Town of Lloyd Historical Preservation Society will feature genealogist Jane Wilcox at its meeting on Monday, Feb. 4, 7:30 p.m., at the theater at Vineyard Commons in Highland. Wilcox will present “Up the North River: An Overview of Pre-1800 Hudson Valley Ethnic Groups and Churches.” The Hudson (North) River Valley was an ethnic and religious melting pot long before the late 19th-century immigrant influx.
Wilcox is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists and several other genealogical associations. In her blog on www.BlogTalkRadio.com/JaneEWilcox, she has written, “Genealogy research isn’t about just your own family. It’s about your family and how they lived and interacted in their communities, which means finding out about your family’s friends, neighbors and associates as well.” Building on what she knows about families, friends, neighbors and associates over the centuries in the Hudson Valley, she tells the human story in a way that adds a new dimension to the history lessons we all learned in school.
Wilcox is the author of the forthcoming biography From England to America: The Odyssey of the William and Margaret Wilcockson Family and host of The Forget-Me-Not Hour: Your Ancestors Want Their Stories to Be Told radio show on WHVW 950 AM radio in Poughkeepsie and on the BlogTalkRadio web site. She has also consulted for the producers of the TV show CSI: Crime Scene Investigation for a genealogy mystery TV pilot. Her website can be found at www.4getMeNotAncestry.com.
The Feb. 4 program will begin with the Lloyd Historical Society’s annual meeting, at which members will elect trustees for the coming year. For additional information, call 255-7742.
