TUESDAY MORNING UPDATE: The city is saying the Schwenk Drive parking lot, a.k.a. “The Crater, ” must be cleared by 7 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11 so they can remove the snow. They expect it to take a couple of hours.
As the snow from the two-day winter storm event continues to fall Monday, there have been several cancellations and a rescheduling announced by the city government.
On Sunday, The city declared a snow emergency beginning at 7 that evening and running until 7 p.m. Tuesday. According to the city, no vehicles should be left on any city street unless that street is posted as “Snow Emergency Parking-Alternate Side Street Parking.” As of Monday afternoon, vehicles on those streets need to be on the even-numbered side of the street.
States the city, “Snow Emergency Routes will be maintained as priorities throughout the storm. Due to a limited supply of road salt, minimum salting will be performed during the storm. Please drive safely and yield to plow drivers so they may clear the roads for safe travel.”
Garbage pickup will maintain its usual schedule, but recycling pickup will be, according to the city, “at least one day or more behind.” The city asks citizens to clear space for trash and recycling bins. Citibus service has been suspended until further notice.
The city planning board, which was to meet Monday, has rescheduled to Thursday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. at City Hall’s council chambers.
Youth activities at the Rondout Neighborhood Center and Everette Hodge center have been cancelled for Monday, as was school, and adult co-ed volleyball matches.

UPDATE (to the update):
At about 2:15 Monday afternoon, the city a.) reminded residents that it’s their responsibility to keep sidewalks in front of their homes and businesses clear of snow and b.) promulgated the list below of parking lots where vehicles can stay until the snow emergency is over:
Uptown – Two on North Front Street and the former parking garage area. Both the Kingston Plaza and Dietz Stadium are also available for overnight parking but please do not park near the large piles of snow that will be removed throughout the night.
Midtown – Sea Deli lot, Safeco lot, Bank of America building, Hodge Center, Cornell lot, Prince Street lot, Church at Franklin Street.
Downtown – Dock Street lot behind Mariners, Two on Dock Street on Rondout under bridge, Visitor Center lot, Abeel Street past Armadillo.
Says the city, vehicles should be removed from lots 24 hours after the snow emergency ends. Vehicles left in lot may be ticketed and towed.
