UPDATE – On Saturday, the city announced the snow emergency will be extended to Sunday, Feb. 16 at 7 a.m. due to the continuing cleanup from Thursday’s snow and additional snowfall Saturday into Sunday.
Wednesday morning, City of Kingston Department of Public Works Superintendent Mike Schupp announced the snow removal plan in anticipation of Thursday’s foot-plus storm. Dig it:
Be advised – a plan of action has been devised by the DPW Management team to effectively plow city streets.
A Snow Emergency has been declared and will be in effect as of 7:00 a.m Thu. February 13, 2014 and will remain in effect for 48 hours unless otherwise posted.
Parking Enforcement shall commence at 9:00 am, Thursday, February 13, 2014 in all residential areas of the city. Business districts will be enforced after 5:00 pm, February 13, 2014.
Vehicles along Snow Emergency Routes will be ticketed and towed after 3:00 pm, February 13, 2014.
Priority routes will be maintained throughout the storm and Snow Emergency Routes will also be maintained. Road salt is in high demand and measures will be taken to conserve when possible. Please minimize driving and stay off the roads during the snow event and allow our drivers to clean up the streets for safe passage.
Refuse pick up will be suspended for Thursday Feb 13th and picked up on Friday Feb. 14th
Recycling will remain on schedule for regular pick up on Thursday Feb. 13th. (This is necessary due to staffing levels so more plows are on the street during the storm.)
City Parking Lots – access and egress points along w/driving lanes will be plowed. Lots will not be completely plowed until after all streets are properly cleared of snow. Please remove your vehicles from city lots as soon after the storm as possible so crews may clear the lots of snow.
